Ivan Kudashev & Ksusha Sokolova

Born and raised in Chelyabinsk, Russia, Ivan was introduced to dance by his mother, despite his father’s hope that he would pursue hockey. Dance quickly became the place where Ivan felt most able to express himself, giving him a creative outlet that came more naturally than words. By the age of thirteen, he was already earning money through dancing, an early sign that dance would become more than a passion. Until the age of nineteen, Ivan performed exclusively as part of a formation team. After completing his university studies, he briefly considered leaving ballroom behind to pursue contemporary dance. Ultimately, his connection to ballroom proved stronger, leading him toward the competitive and professional career that would eventually bring him to the United States and to a partnership with Ksusha.
Born and raised in Chelyabinsk, Russia, Ksusha began dancing at the age of five after her mother brought her to a local dance studio. From the very beginning, she demonstrated a natural talent and strong connection to movement, quickly developing a passion for dance. Her dedication to education has been just as important as her development as a dancer. Ksusha holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in choreography and another in psychology, reflecting her interests in both the artistic and humanistic aspects of her work. She spent a year living in Spain, gaining valuable life and cultural experiences outside her native Russia. Throughout her journey, Ksusha has continued to combine her academic background, international experience, and natural talent to develop as both a dancer and educator.
Ivan and Ksusha first met in 2006 while dancing on the same formation team, although they competed with different partners at the time. In 2012, they began dancing together as a couple in International Latin and quickly built a partnership that would take them across the world. They became professional dancers in 2014, and moved to the United States in 2017 to continue developing their careers. In 2022, they made another significant transition, moving from the International Latin style into American Rhythm. Today, Ivan and Ksusha live in New Jersey and own The Ballroom Dance House, where they balance the demands of operating a dance studio with their own training and competitive goals. Their journey is defined by that constant balance, as they continue to grow as competitors, teachers, business owners, and partners while pursuing excellence both on and off the floor.
